In the “What is Success Series?” I shared with you:
In this blog article, part 3 of the “What is Success Series?”, I am going to share with you how you can enjoy the process as you move towards the accomplishment of your goals.
When you want to achieve success in your life it is easy to get carried away and to 'lose your soul' in the process on the one hand. On the other hand, when you enjoy the process you understand that you put a lot of energy into the accomplishment of your goal for the purpose of personal growth.
I chose Earl Nightingale’s definition of success: “Success is the progressive realization of a worthy ideal” because it is the closest definition of success led by the heart as opposed to the head. Indeed, it the closest definition of success which defines success as self-actualization. When success is led by the heart you truly enjoy the process because you are on purpose. The following 5 points show you how to be on purpose:
1. Drop into your heart each time you want to move toward your goal.
This is your place of truth, authenticity and honesty. Anything else is chasing the cat and never catching it! This requires you to trust your intuition, your gut feeling…
2. Be the full expression of your authentic voice
When you are the full expression of your authentic voice you are on purpose, you play the music that is in your heart and your goal truly resonates with what you desire and not someone else’s dream or what they expect of you.
3. Let go of fear
One of my mentors Bill Baren says that the goal you resist the most is the one you must pursue. Therefore, if the goal you resist the most is the one, which will help you be on purpose, you must feel the fear and do it anyway. This requires you to trust both the process and that you are on the right track.
4. Stop chasing success
When you chase success, moving from one project to the next without reflecting on what you have done so far, or how you have progressed, you do not enjoy the process as such because you are never satisfied. You must celebrate success instead of constantly chasing it. You celebrate your success when you are grateful from the bottom of your heart for what you have achieved and the person you have become.
5. Simplicity kills the cat
When you keep things simple you enjoy the process: “The main thing is to keep the main thing the main thing.” When you complicate things well, things get complicated!
Remember that you are on purpose every day when you enjoy what you do. Therefore, it is important that you bring joy to everything you do.
How could you be on purpose today? In other words, how could you bring more joy to what you do daily?
